Caoimhin Kelleher has claimed that he wants more playing time, and Joe Gomez apparently wants to leave in the summer.
Chris Sutton, who has been discussing the £30 million goalkeeper’s situation on It’s All Kicking Off, has offered the Irishman a solution.
Sutton advocated for Kelleher to join Celtic.
Of course, Sutton himself is an ex-Celtic player, so there is an element of bias attached here, but the pundit believes this could be a brilliant move for Kelleher.
“Where should the Liverpool reserve goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, move to? Kelleher, of course, has said he’s unhappy with life on the bench at Liverpool,” Sutton was asked.
“I mean, he could move anywhere, couldn’t he, really? He’s the best back-up keeper, I think, I’ve ever seen in the Premier League,” Sutton said.
“Anyway, where should Kelleher go to?”
“Celtic. That won’t happen in Celtic, but because of his Irish roots, Celtic,’ Sutton said.
Where will Kelleher go?
According to Sutton, Celtic would be an excellent fit for Kelleher, but such a move is improbable.
With all due respect, the Scottish Premiership is not the greatest level of league in Europe, and Kelleher may aim higher.
Kelleher has recently been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, which may be the level he aims for.
Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to join Liverpool next year, at which point Kelleher will almost certainly leave Anfield.
It’s unclear where the Irishman will go next, but as romantic as a move to Celtic would be, Kelleher is unlikely to relocate north of the border anytime soon.
Kelleher is more likely to sign with a top Premier League or European team than Celtic.
