The Premier League match officials have been selected for Newcastle United’s encounter versus Arsenal at St James’ Park on Saturday (12:30pm kick-off).
Newcastle enters the weekend’s early kickoff hoping to snap a five-game losing streak in the Premier League. The match will be refereed by John Brooks, who will be aided by Simon Bennett and Dan Robathan, with Darren Bond serving as fourth official.
On Brooks’ decision to send Van Dijk off former Reds boss Klopp said after the match at St James’ Park: “There is no active contact from Virgil van Dijk. It is just going for the ball and on the way there, he made contact.
“For this contact, getting three games, oh my God, unbelievable.”
Van Dijk received a one-match suspension and a £100,000 fine for his response to Brooks’ red card. He admitted to acting inappropriately and using harsh language towards the match referee.
Jarred Gillett will be the video assistant referee for Saturday’s encounter against Arsenal, with assistance from Darren Cann.
