Rafael Nadal is preparing to retire at the Davis Cup Finals, when he will represent Spain for the final time in front of his home audience.
However, the specifics of his goodbye have been unclear, as Nadal previously stated that he would not compete if he did not feel prepared.
David Ferrer, Spain’s captain, has spoken with the 22-time Major champion and his squad about the match lineup. And he said he’d make the ultimate decision.
Nadal’s final match could be decided at the “last minute” as Ferrer confessed everything was still up in the air. The team leader still doesn’t know who will be in his final squad, let alone whether the retiring star will play singles or doubles.
There have been concerns over another player as Pablo Carreno Busta pulled out of the Paris Masters. “I think the final team will be known next week,” Ferrer told AS.
“A few more days and we will announce the team. I have already told all the players that we will see after Paris. I think we will know on Monday or Tuesday.”
Ferrer has also spoken with Nadal and his management, but the retired former No. 3 will not make a final decision on the match lineups until he sees everyone in Malaga. He went added, “I don’t know, I’ll have to see them train.”
