**Guardians Catcher Says He Feels ‘Like Home’ After Completing His Return to Cleveland**
After a two-year absence, Cleveland Guardians catcher Mike Zunino has officially made his return to the team, and he couldn’t be happier. The veteran backstop, who initially spent parts of two seasons with the Guardians’ organization in 2013 and 2014, signed a one-year deal to rejoin the club this offseason. Now, back in familiar surroundings, Zunino expressed how great it feels to be home.
In an interview following his first spring training workouts, Zunino said, “It really does feel like home. Coming back to Cleveland, where I first started my professional career, it’s something special. It’s like stepping into a place that’s familiar but also fresh at the same time.” Zunino was drafted by Cleveland in the first round of the 2010 MLB Draft but was eventually traded to the Seattle Mariners in 2014, where he spent most of his career. After a brief stint with the Tampa Bay Rays, Zunino found himself back in Cleveland, where he’s eager to contribute and provide leadership to the younger players.
Zunino’s return has been marked by a renewed sense of excitement and energy for both him and the organization. Guardians’ manager Terry Francona welcomed Zunino’s leadership, praising his experience and work ethic. “Mike brings a wealth of knowledge behind the plate,” said Francona. “Not only can he handle the pitching staff, but he’s also a great resource for the younger players. We’re thrilled to have him back.”
