Will Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, and Tom Pidcock compete in cyclocross this winter? And if they do, when? This is the burning question of the cyclocross world. The UCI has sparked enthusiasm by implying through official channels that “the big guns” are preparing to start soon.
At the moment, only Van Aert‘s participation in cyclocross this winter is likely. The Belgian rider from Visma | Lease a Bike will initially complete a road training camp before transitioning to cyclocross by the end of December. Van der Poel and Pidcock face a more complicated scenario. The Alpecin-Deceuninck world champion has not revealed any plans, and Pidcock stated after his most recent road race that he is still assessing if cyclocross fits into his winter itinerary.
