Rachel Homan and Brendan Bottcher Qualify for Canadian Mixed Doubles Trials
In an exciting turn of events, Rachel Homan and Brendan Bottcher have secured their spot at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Olympic Trials. The Trials, scheduled to take place from December 30 to January 4, 2025, in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, will determine Canada’s mixed doubles representatives at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
Homan and Bottcher’s qualification comes after a dominant performance at the second qualifying event held at the Guelph Curling Club. The duo defeated Lauren Wasylkiw and Shane Konings of Unionville, Ontario, with a convincing 8-1 scoreline in the final. The match ended prematurely, with Wasylkiw-Konings conceding after just four ends.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for Homan and Bottcher, who are competing together in their first season of mixed doubles. Bottcher initially signed on to coach Homan’s four-person team but later joined Brad Gushue’s Brier-winning squad. Homan, on the other hand, has prior experience in mixed doubles, having represented Canada alongside John Morris at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
