Gushue Thrills Hometown Crowd with Victory over Carruthers
In an electrifying match at the Kioti National, hometown favourite Brad Gushue delivered a thrilling 6-3 win over Winnipeg’s Reid Carruthers on Wednesday afternoon. The near-capacity crowd at the Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s, N.L. was on the edge of their seats as Gushue improved his round-robin record to 2-0.
The match came to a close after Carruthers made a draw for a single in the seventh end, prompting a handshake between the teams. Gushue’s victory marked a triumphant return to the Mary Brown’s Centre, where he won his first career national men’s championship in 2017.

Earlier in the day, Winnipeg’s Kaitlyn Lawes made a stunning comeback, securing a 5-4 victory over Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni with a game-winning draw to the button. Lawes’ win marked her first competition since returning from maternity leave.
