Sometimes the spread for a football game does not seem reasonable. That is the situation for this week’s Monday Night Football contest between the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals.
This isn’t a rant about how the Cowboys deserve more credit for pulling off a stunning victory and then defeating the league’s poorest team, the New York Giants. There is no doubt that the Cowboys are playing better, but that is not the issue with the starting line this week. FanDuel lists the Bengals as 6.5-point favorites.
This Bengals team is 4-8. As in, they have one fewer wins this season than the 5-7 Cowboys. The Bengals defeated the Panthers, Giants, Browns, and Raiders. Sure, the Bengals have lost close games to some strong teams, but they are presently on a three-game losing run. They’ll also be on the road. And now we know Joe Burrow is limping.
All of this adds up to the Cowboys being nearly a touchdown underdog. That simply doesn’t feel right.
