Curt Cignetti Makes History as Big Ten Coach of the Year
In a groundbreaking achievement, Indiana University’s (IU) football coach, Curt Cignetti, has been named the Big Ten Coach of the Year. This prestigious honor comes after Cignetti led the IU football team to a remarkable eight-game turnaround from 2023 to 2024.
Cignetti’s impressive feat marks the second-best improvement by a first-year head coach since at least 1996. His outstanding leadership has also made him the first-ever Division I coach to start 8-0 or better in consecutive seasons at different schools.
Under Cignetti’s guidance, IU football has achieved unprecedented success. The team has set a program record with 11 victories, marking the first-ever season with double-digit wins. This accomplishment is a testament to Cignetti’s exceptional coaching skills and his ability to inspire his team to reach new heights.
Cignetti’s Big Ten Coach of the Year award is his fifth career coach of the year honor. He has previously won this award at his previous stops, including IUP in 2012, Elon in 2017, and James Madison in 2023.
