As the highly anticipated SEC Championship game approaches, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has expressed his concerns about facing Texas’s secret weapon, Arch Manning. The nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch has been making waves with his impressive performances, particularly in the Longhorns’ recent 17-7 win over Texas A&M.

Smart revealed to the media on Monday that Arch Manning is “scary” due to his unique combination of skills. “He’s athletic, smart, thick, a great thrower,” Smart said. “I mean, he can run their entire offense while at the same time creating designed runs or off-schedule runs. And both are scary because designed runs with him are tough to defend because you’re having to defend the whole field.”

Manning’s versatility was on full display against Texas A&M, where he was deployed in the red zone as a wildcat quarterback. This new package allowed Manning to showcase his dynamic running skills, which resulted in a 15-yard rushing touchdown on 4th-and-2.

The use of Manning in this way also takes some pressure off starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, who has been dealing with an ankle injury. By changing things up and incorporating Manning’s skills, Texas may be able to prevent a repeat of the Bulldogs’ dominant performance in their previous meeting.

In that game, Georgia sacked Ewers and Manning seven times combined and forced four turnovers. However, with Manning’s growing confidence and new package, the Longhorns may be able to catch the Bulldogs off guard.

Despite being the “home” team, Georgia is currently a 2.5-point underdog according to ESPN BET. The Longhorns are also favored to win by ESPN’s FPI, with a 61.5% chance of emerging victorious.

The SEC Championship game is set to kick off at 3:00 ET on Saturday and will air on ABC. With Arch Manning’s skills and Texas’s newfound momentum, this game is shaping up to be an exciting showdown between two of the nation’s top teams.
