Texas Longhorn Kelvin Banks Wins SEC’s Jacobs Blocking Trophy
In a remarkable achievement, Texas Longhorn offensive lineman Kelvin Banks has been named the co-recipient of the prestigious Jacobs Blocking Trophy. The award, announced by the Southeastern Conference (SEC) on Wednesday, recognizes Banks as one of the best blockers in the SEC, sharing the honor with LSU’s Will Campbell.
This accolade adds to Banks’ impressive resume, which already includes a first-team All-Big 12 and second-team All-American selection in 2023, as well as freshman All-American and second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2022. The junior from Humble, Texas, has been a constant presence on the blindside of quarterback Quinn Ewers over the past three seasons.
Banks’ outstanding performance has also earned him a spot on the All-SEC first team, alongside fellow Longhorn Jahdae Barron. This recognition is a testament to Banks’ hard work and dedication to his craft.
The Jacobs Blocking Trophy is one of several SEC individual awards announced this week. Other notable winners include Dylan Sampson of Tennessee, who was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Kyle Kennard of South Carolina, who took home Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Banks’ future prospects are bright, with the potential to become the first Longhorn offensive lineman taken in the first round of the NFL Draft in over two decades. He may also follow in the footsteps of T’Vondre Sweat, who won the Outland Trophy in 2023.
In addition to his individual accolades, Banks is part of a Texas offensive line that is up for the Joe Moore Award, alongside Oregon and Army.
The SEC All-Freshman Team will be announced on Thursday, capping off an exciting week of awards and recognition for the conference’s top players.
