Texas A&M Secures Commitment from 4-Star Tight End Caleb Tafua
In a significant development for the Texas A&M football program, 2026 4-star tight end Caleb Tafua has announced his commitment to the Aggies. The highly touted recruit, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 215 pounds, revealed his decision after a thorough consideration process that included prayer and discussions with his family.
Tafua’s commitment is a substantial coup for Texas A&M, as he was also being pursued by top programs such as California, USC, and Washington. The Long Beach (Calif.) Lakewood product had narrowed down his options to these four schools, releasing his top four on December 11.
The Aggies’ coaching staff, led by head coach Mike Elko, played a crucial role in securing Tafua’s commitment. The recruit was impressed by the environment at Kyle Field, which he described as “very different” from what he had experienced before. The 12th Man’s energetic atmosphere left a lasting impression on Tafua, who acknowledged that the state of Texas is “all about football.”
Tafua’s decision to commit to Texas A&M was not taken lightly. He had been considering the Aggies seriously since his visit to College Station on November 30 for their game against Texas. After returning home, Tafua prayed and spoke with his family about his decision, ultimately concluding that Texas A&M was the right fit for him.
“It felt like that was where I needed to be,” Tafua told On3. “It’s where I felt everybody around me getting hyped up. I see myself in those stadiums and playing for A&M.”
While Washington was also a strong contender for Tafua’s services, the Aggies’ unique environment and the coaching staff’s impressive showing ultimately won him over. Tafua, who plans to graduate early ahead of his college football career, believes that he will be well-prepared for the rigors of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
The SEC’s reputation as a “very different ballgame” excites Tafua, who sees himself thriving in the conference. With his commitment to Texas A&M, the Aggies have secured a talented tight end who is eager to make an impact in the SEC.
