Danny Stutsman Makes History as Oklahoma’s 83rd Consensus All-American
In a remarkable achievement, Oklahoma senior linebacker Danny Stutsman has been recognized as a 2024 consensus All-American. This prestigious honor marks Stutsman as the Sooners’ 83rd consensus All-American, joining an elite group of players that includes former wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and former linebacker Curtis Lofton.
Stutsman’s journey to consensus All-American status was unique, as he earned first-team recognition from only two of the five NCAA-recognized selectors: the Walter Camp Football Foundation and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Typically, a player must receive first-team honors from at least three of the five selectors to achieve consensus status. However, due to the exceptional circumstances of the 2024 season, Stutsman’s achievement was acknowledged as a consensus All-American.
The Oklahoma standout shares this honor with two other linebackers, Jay Higgins from Iowa and Shaun Dolac from Buffalo, who also received first-team All-America status from two selectors. Stutsman’s accomplishment is a testament to his outstanding performance on the field, which has earned him a place among the top linebackers in college football.
This recognition marks a significant milestone for Stutsman, who becomes the first consensus All-American at Oklahoma since wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in 2019. He is also the first Sooners linebacker to earn this designation since Curtis Lofton in 2007. Stutsman’s achievement brings the total number of consensus All-Americans at Oklahoma to 83, with nine of those being linebackers.
Stutsman’s impressive senior season was instrumental in his consensus All-American recognition. He led Oklahoma with 109 total tackles, ranking fourth in the Big 12 and 24th among all FBS defensive players. The 6-foot-4, 243-pound linebacker also recorded eight tackles for loss, one sack, and 13 total pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. His exceptional performance has propelled him into the top-10 of Oklahoma’s career tackles leaderboard.
As Stutsman’s collegiate career comes to a close, his consensus All-American recognition serves as a fitting tribute to his hard work, dedication, and outstanding achievements on the field. His legacy will undoubtedly inspire future generations of Oklahoma linebackers, and his name will be etched in the history books as one of the greatest to ever don the Sooners’ uniform.
