Auburn Tigers Face Another Blow as Percy Lewis Enters Transfer Portal
In a move that may raise concerns for Auburn’s offensive line, Percy Lewis, the team’s starting offensive tackle, has decided to enter the transfer portal. This development comes on the heels of E.J. Harris’s announcement to do the same on December 2.
Lewis, a senior standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 355 pounds, spent only one season with the Tigers. Despite starting in several games, including against notable opponents like Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Georgia, Lewis struggled as the season progressed. He was eventually benched, logging only 308 snaps, the lowest among offensive tackles with at least 50 snaps on the team, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF).
Lewis’s decision to enter the transfer portal may not come as a surprise, given his diminished playing time and performance issues. Before joining Auburn, Lewis played for Mississippi State, where he appeared in 25 games and started eight. He was initially recruited as a four-star junior college prospect, ranking as the No. 2 JUCO player and No. 1 JUCO offensive tackle in the 2022 class, according to 247Sports.
Auburn has been proactive in addressing its offensive line needs, securing commitments from four-star offensive tackles Mason Murphy and Xavier Chaplin through the portal. Chaplin, ranked as the No. 3 offensive tackle in the portal, and Murphy, ranked No. 5, are expected to bolster the team’s depth and talent. Additionally, the Tigers have added four high school offensive linemen to their 2025 recruiting class.
As the transfer portal continues to shape Auburn’s roster, the team currently boasts the No. 4 portal class, trailing Texas Tech, LSU, and Ole Miss. With 18 players having announced their intention to transfer from Auburn, the team’s coaching staff will be tasked with integrating new talent and rebuilding the offensive line.
