Texas Longhorns Receive High Praise from Nick Saban After Impressive Win Over Clemson
Legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban has expressed his admiration for the Texas Longhorns’ dominant performance against Clemson in the First Round of the College Football Playoff. Saban, who currently serves as an analyst for College GameDay, shared his thoughts on the Pat McAfee Show.
Saban was particularly impressed with the Longhorns’ ability to run the ball effectively against Clemson. Texas ran for an impressive 292 yards, with running backs Jaydon Blue and Quintrevion Wisner both achieving 100-yard games. Wisner scored two touchdowns before exiting the game due to an injury in the second quarter.
“The thing that impressed me most about Texas in the Clemson game is the way they ran the ball,” Saban said. “They ran the ball up and down the field on these guys. I’ve always said this — if you don’t run the ball, well, you have trouble in the red area.”
Saban also highlighted the Longhorns’ improvement in the red zone, an area where they struggled in their previous loss to Georgia. He emphasized that Texas’ ability to run the ball effectively has been crucial in addressing this issue.
Saban’s praise didn’t stop there. He expressed his belief that the Longhorns are one of the top four teams in the country, with a legitimate chance of winning the national championship.
“I think Texas is one of the best four teams out there that has a chance to get in the championship game,” Saban said.
Pat McAfee echoed Saban’s sentiments, commending Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian for his ability to rally his team after losses. The Longhorns have only lost two games this season, both to Georgia, and have bounced back stronger after each defeat.
The Longhorns will face their next challenge in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff against Arizona State, a team that boasts a strong rushing defense, ranking 27th in the country. The two teams will clash in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on January 1st at Noon.
