Alabama Football’s Receiver Group: A New Look in 2025
The Alabama Crimson Tide’s receiver group will undergo significant changes in 2025. While Ryan Williams is expected to return, the team will bid farewell to several key players, including Kobe Prentice, Kendrick Law, Emmanuel Henderson Jr., and Caleb Odom, who have all entered the transfer portal.
One major question mark is the future of Germie Bernard, who led the team with 46 receptions in 2024. Bernard was non-committal about his plans when asked after practice, stating that his focus was on the upcoming ReliaQuest Bowl against Michigan.
If Bernard decides to stay, he and Williams will form a formidable duo, having accounted for the majority of the team’s receiving production in 2024. However, if Bernard leaves, the team will rely on a mix of new and returning players to fill the void.
One significant addition is Isaiah Horton, a transfer from Miami who brings experience and production to the table. Horton caught 56 passes for 616 yards and five touchdowns in 2024.
Other players who will be vying for playing time include Jaylen Mbakwe, who is transitioning from cornerback to wide receiver, and Cole Adams, who returns after an injury-plagued season. Rico Scott, Jaren Hamilton, Bubba Hampton, and Amari Jefferson are also expected to return.
The team will also welcome two freshmen receivers, Derek Meadows and Lotzeir Brooks, who will add depth and talent to the position.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Bernard’s future, he expressed confidence in the receiver group’s potential, citing the addition of Horton and the growth of younger players.
“I think the receiver room is going to be great,” Bernard said. “The new addition, Horton, is going to be great in the receiving room. Having guys that have been in the playbook for a year going into their second year, they’re going to be able to play faster, man. Be able to execute better.”
With a mix of experienced players and talented newcomers, Alabama’s receiver group will have a fresh look in 2025. While there are still questions to be answered, one thing is certain: the Crimson Tide will be looking to make a statement in the upcoming season.
