Georgia Football Prepares for Sugar Bowl Amidst Injury Setbacks
The Georgia Bulldogs are gearing up for their highly anticipated Sugar Bowl matchup against Notre Dame on Wednesday. As the team wraps up its on-campus preparations, some notable absences were observed during Friday’s practice session.
Injury Updates: Two Running Backs Out
Running backs Roderick Robinson and Branson Robinson will be sidelined for the playoff game due to injuries. Roderick Robinson sustained an ankle injury during Thursday’s practice, while Branson Robinson experienced a setback with his knee. This news comes as a blow to the Bulldogs’ backfield depth.
Roderick Robinson had seen limited action in the last two games, rushing for 3 yards on 2 carries and making 2 catches for 34 yards. Branson Robinson, on the other hand, has been out for the past seven games, having rushed for 33 yards on 6 carries earlier in the season.
Scholarship Running Backs Step Up
In the absence of the injured duo, the Bulldogs’ scholarship running backs took center stage during Friday’s practice. The pecking order consisted of Trevor Etienne, Cash Jones, Nate Frazier, Chauncey Bowens, and Dwight Phillips.
Early Enrollees Make Their Mark
Several of Georgia’s early enrollees participated in practice, although some were difficult to identify due to their scout team jerseys. One notable exception was tight end Elyiss Williams, who stood out with his impressive size (6-foot-7, 240 pounds). Williams, a Camden County product, already appears to be an enticing target for the Bulldogs’ quarterbacks.
Gunner Stockton Takes the Reins
New starting quarterback Gunner Stockton looked sharp during practice, delivering a crisp pass over the middle to Dom Lovett in one drill. Meanwhile, injured quarterback Carson Beck was absent from practice, casting doubt on his availability for the Sugar Bowl.
