In a major development for Oklahoma’s 2025 recruiting class, 4-star defensive back Courtland Guillory has officially committed to the Sooners. The 6-foot-2, 178-pound cornerback, from Klein Oak High School in Spring, Texas, made the announcement on Sunday, choosing Oklahoma over a host of other top programs including Texas, Texas A&M, and UCF. His commitment gives OU a significant boost to their defensive backfield as they continue to build for the future.
Guillory, who is ranked as the No. 354 overall prospect and the No. 32 cornerback in the nation by On3’s industry rankings, represents a key addition to the Sooners’ 2025 recruiting class. His decision to commit to Oklahoma marks a strong moment of momentum for head coach Brent Venables and defensive backs coach Jay Valai. Notably, Guillory is the 14th player and the second cornerback to join the class, following fellow defensive back Marcus Wimberly, who is also committed to OU.
The Houston-area standout’s combination of height, length, and speed makes him an intriguing prospect for Oklahoma. His physical tools align well with the qualities that Coach Valai covets in cornerbacks, including the ability to match up with taller and more physical receivers. These attributes were on full display throughout his recruitment, which saw him pick up his offer from Venables and the Sooners staff in late January. Guillory has since visited Norman multiple times, further solidifying his relationship with the program.
One of Guillory’s key visits came during Oklahoma’s Junior Day event in early February, where he had the opportunity to meet with the coaching staff and tour the campus. He also attended the Sooners’ spring game in April, where he was one of over 80 prospects in attendance. His connection with the program grew stronger after the visit, and soon after, OU’s defensive staff visited him at his high school in Spring, Texas.
In the days since the spring game, Guillory’s commitment marks the fourth for Oklahoma in just a week. He joins former SMU center Branson Hickman, former Louisville defensive lineman Jermayne Lole, and Denton Guyer (TX) 2027 edge prospect Zane Rowe. Guillory’s commitment further strengthens a defensive backfield that already includes Wimberly and Frisco Emerson cornerback Maliek Hawkins.
With additional talented defensive backs like Jonah Williams, Omarion Robinson, and Trystan Haynes still on the board, the Sooners are in prime position to continue building a strong secondary in the 2025 class. Courtland Guillory’s commitment is a statement of intent as Oklahoma looks to further enhance its defense under Coach Venables.
