Family of Late UGA Football Player Devin Willock Files $2 Million Lawsuit
The parents of Devin Willock, a University of Georgia (UGA) football player who tragically lost his life in a car accident, have filed a $2 million lawsuit against the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents. The lawsuit comes almost two years after the fatal crash, which occurred on January 25, 2023.
Circumstances Surrounding the Crash
The accident involved a leased UGA Athletic Association vehicle, which was being driven by recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy. LeCroy, who also lost her life in the crash, had a history of reckless driving, including a super-speeder ticket in Morgan County. Despite this, the university’s employees allegedly negligently provided her with the vehicle.
On the night of the accident, LeCroy and UGA defensive tackle Jalen Carter were street racing at speeds over 100 mph. LeCroy’s vehicle eventually jumped over a curb, struck a utility pole, and crashed into an apartment building. Willock, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected onto the sidewalk and pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation Reveals LeCroy’s Blood Alcohol Level
An investigation into the crash revealed that LeCroy’s blood alcohol level was .197, significantly above the legal driving limit of .08%. This revelation has raised further questions about the university’s responsibility in providing LeCroy with a vehicle, given her history of reckless behavior.
Previous Lawsuits Filed
This lawsuit is not the first to be filed in connection with the accident. Willock’s father previously filed a $40 million lawsuit naming the UGA Athletic Association, LeCroy’s estate, Carter, and others. Additionally, Victoria Bowles, a former UGA recruiting staffer who was also riding in LeCroy’s car, has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Carter and LeCroy’s estate. Bowles has also reached an undisclosed settlement with the UGA Athletic Association.
Seeking Justice and Accountability
The Willock family’s lawsuit seeks to hold the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents accountable for their alleged negligence in providing LeCroy with a vehicle. The family is seeking $2 million in damages, which they hope will bring some measure of justice and closure to their tragic loss.
