Texas Longhorns Look to Arch Manning for Future Success
The Texas Longhorns’ inaugural season in the SEC was a resounding success, despite falling short in the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff semifinals. With a 13-3 record, the Longhorns proved themselves to be one of the top teams in college football. However, with the announcement that starting quarterback Quinn Ewers will be turning pro, the focus shifts to the future, and the spotlight is firmly on Arch Manning.
Manning, the grandson of legendary college quarterback Archie Manning and nephew of NFL stars Peyton and Eli Manning, was ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class by On3. His impressive pedigree and talent have Longhorns fans excited about the prospect of him leading the team.
Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt recently shared his thoughts on Manning’s abilities, stating that there were instances during the season when he believed Manning should have been playing instead of Ewers. “Arch is very good,” Klatt said. “He’s more mobile. I think that he drives the football into smaller windows down the field. He’s got a much higher ceiling (than Quinn Ewers).”
Manning’s performance in limited action this season supports Klatt’s assessment. In 10 games and two starts, Manning completed 67.8% of his passes for 939 yards, with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. He also showcased his mobility, recording 108 rushing yards with an average of 4.3 yards per carry and scoring four touchdowns.
The challenge for Manning and the Longhorns will be to replicate this success despite the loss of several key players. The team’s second-leading rusher, Jaydon Blue, and top three receivers – Matthew Golden, Isaiah Bond, and Gunnar Helm – will all be departing. Additionally, four of the five starting offensive linemen will not be returning.
Despite these challenges, Texas is hopeful that Manning is ready to take the reins and lead the team to success. With his impressive talent, mobility, and pedigree, Manning has the potential to be a standout quarterback in the SEC.
