Alabama Linebacker Deontae Lawson Returns for 2025 Season
In a surprise move, Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson has announced that he will be returning to the Crimson Tide for the 2025 season. The redshirt junior had initially intended to enter the NFL draft after the 2024 campaign but has had a change of heart.
Lawson, a former four-star linebacker from Mobile, Alabama, has been a stalwart on the Alabama defense for the past two seasons. He started at linebacker for the Tide and finished the 2024 season with impressive stats, including 76 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks. Unfortunately, his season was cut short due to a season-ending injury against Oklahoma.
In an interview with the Crimson Tide Sports Network, Lawson revealed that his decision to return was influenced by his faith and family. “I was planning on declaring [for the draft], but stuff happens, and you never really know why,” Lawson said. “I put all my faith in the good Lord, and he put it in my heart to take a step back and not go.”
Lawson also credited his family with playing a significant role in his decision. “My family played a huge role in this decision,” he said. “I just don’t feel accomplished here yet. I don’t really feel like I got things to prove, but like I just don’t feel like my story is complete here.”
The return of Lawson is a significant boost to the Alabama defense, which will be led by a veteran and experienced group of players in 2025. As a captain, Lawson will be expected to provide leadership and guidance to his teammates.
Overall, the decision by Lawson to return to Alabama is a positive development for the Crimson Tide and their fans. With Lawson back in the fold, Alabama will be looking to make a strong run in the 2025 season.
