Sawyer’s impressive performance in the College Football Playoff (CFP) has significantly boosted his draft stock. His strip-sack, scoop-and-score against Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in the Cotton Bowl cemented the Buckeyes’ spot in the national title game.
Sawyer attributes his success to his faith, stating, “It’s everything to us… when you put God first and truly seek to grow with him and follow his plan, he’s going to open so many doors for you that you would never think you could achieve otherwise.” He also acknowledged the role his faith played in helping him cope with the team’s tough losses during the season.
One of those losses was a significant upset by the Michigan Wolverines, which led to a brawl on the field. Sawyer was seen ripping a Michigan flag away from midfield, showcasing his passion and dedication to his team.
Despite the setbacks, the Buckeyes demonstrated remarkable resilience, and Sawyer credits their hard work and determination for their ultimate success. “We knew we had to get to work and fix the things we needed to fix and attack it as hard as we could,” he said.

He reflected on the experience, stating, “I think it’s just taught me a lot about life… it’s taught me about how everything is not always going to go your way, but if you keep trusting in God and fight and keep getting up every day swinging, eventually you’re going to come out the other end.”
