Ben Christman, a 21-year-old offensive lineman for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), was found deceased in his off-campus apartment on Tuesday morning. The cause of death has not been disclosed, pending determination by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
Christman’s football journey began as a highly-touted four-star recruit from Revere High School in Richfield, Ohio. He committed to Ohio State University in 2021, where he redshirted his freshman year and appeared in one game during the 2022 season.
Seeking more playing time, Christman transferred to the University of Kentucky in 2023. Unfortunately, a knee injury sidelined him for the entire season. He made a commendable comeback in 2024, participating in all 12 games on special teams and logging 67 snaps.
In December 2024, Christman transferred to UNLV under new head coach Dan Mullen. Despite being with the team for a short period, he earned a spot on the Leadership Committee, reflecting the immediate respect and admiration he garnered from his teammates.
UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield expressed his condolences, stating, “There is little that can be said to lessen the pain of suddenly losing a member of our university family at such a young age, and my heart breaks for all who knew and loved him.”
The university is offering counseling services to students, faculty, and staff affected by Christman’s passing. Memorial arrangements have not yet been announced.
