The Mississippi State Bulldogs, concluding the regular season with a 20-11 overall record and 8-10 in SEC play, have secured the No. 10 seed in the tournament. Their opening game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 12, at 6:00 p.m. CT (1:00 a.m. WAT on Thursday, March 13) against the No. 15 seed, Louisiana State University (LSU) Tigers, who finished their season at 14-17 overall and 3-15 in the SEC. Should the Bulldogs triumph over LSU, they will advance to the second round on Thursday, March 13, facing the No. 7 seed, Missouri Tigers, at 6:00 p.m. CT (1:00 a.m. WAT on Friday, March 14). Missouri concluded their regular season with a 21-10 overall record and 10-8 in the SEC. A victory in this matchup would propel Mississippi State into the quarterfinals on Friday, March 14, against the No. 2 seed, Florida Gators, at 6:00 p.m. CT (1:00 a.m. WAT on Saturday, March 15). The Gators finished their season with a 14-4 conference record.
