In a powerful demonstration of compassion and leadership, Alyssa Brito, standout softball player for the Oklahoma Sooners, has pledged $1 million to transform a residential property into a shelter for homeless youth. Brito, widely respected not only for her athletic talent but also for her character and community involvement, made the announcement Monday morning in Norman, Oklahoma. The shelter, which will be renovated and fully outfitted using her donation, is expected to open its doors in early 2026. It will serve as both a safe haven and a transitional housing facility for youth experiencing homelessness or unstable living conditions.
“My journey has been shaped by strong support systems—coaches, teammates, family, and friends,” Brito said during the press conference. “I know many young people don’t have that kind of backing. This shelter is about giving them a second chance, a place to breathe, and the resources to build a better future.”
The shelter will feature a range of services including counseling, job training, academic tutoring, and wellness programs.
