The former Ole Miss and NFL star is stepping up in a major way, investing $3.6 million of his personal funds to convert several of his privately-owned estates into shelters for the homeless and less privileged in his community.
McAllister, a beloved figure in Mississippi and among Ole Miss alumni, announced this remarkable initiative earlier this week, stating that the growing crisis of homelessness and poverty in local communities compelled him to act. The shelters, which are set to open in phases over the coming year, will provide not only a roof over people’s heads but also daily meals, clean clothing, and support services aimed at helping individuals rebuild their lives.
“A lot of people are suffering,” McAllister said in a statement. “Many don’t have a meal to eat, a warm place to sleep, or even clean clothes to wear. I’ve been blessed in my life, and I truly believe that it’s my responsibility to give back. I’m giving from the little I have—not just out of abundance but from the heart.”
The new facilities will be located in underserved areas where homelessness and unemployment are most acute. The shelters will offer essential services such as temporary housing, vocational training, mental health counseling, and educational programs designed to help individuals gain independence and long-term stability. Additionally, McAllister is partnering with local non-profits, churches, and volunteers to provide spiritual support and community-building efforts within the shelters.
Local leaders have praised McAllister for his bold and compassionate move. “This is more than charity—this is leadership,” said Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. “Deuce is showing us what it means to love your neighbor and take real action to create change.”
