For the first time since the signing of Matthew Stafford, the University of Georgia has landed the nation’s No. 1 quarterback. Jared Curtis, the star signal-caller from Nashville Christian, officially committed to the Bulldogs as the headliner of what’s shaping up to be an elite 2026 recruiting class. Curtis, who is ranked as the top quarterback in the nation, signed his letter of intent and wasted no time immersing himself in Georgia’s football culture.
Curtis visited Athens just days after signing and linked up with another top prospect: Jackson Cantwell, the No. 1 overall player in the country according to On3. Cantwell, a dominant offensive tackle, spent time touring the Classic City and was photographed dining with Curtis at Last Resort in downtown Athens. Both were seen wearing Georgia sweatshirts, and the buzz only intensified when Cantwell announced he would be revealing his college decision later today. His final four schools include Georgia, Miami, Oregon, and Ohio State. A commitment from Cantwell would further cement Georgia’s offensive future.
The Bulldogs continued their hot streak on Mother’s Day, securing a pledge from four-star safety Jordan Smith. Smith, from Warner Robins, Georgia, attends Houston County High School—the same school that produced former Georgia standout quarterback Jake Fromm. Ranked as the No. 6 safety nationally and No. 75 overall player in the 2026 class, Smith is also the No. 7 player in the state. He’s a big-time addition to a class full of promise.
Georgia is also leading the charge for several more top-tier prospects. The Bulldogs have the best odds to land the No. 1 linebacker in the class, Tyler Atkinson from Grayson, Georgia. Georgia’s reputation as “LBU” could grow even stronger with Atkinson’s addition.
At running back, Georgia is battling for the top talents in the nation. The Bulldogs are currently second in the race for the No. 1 running back, Savion Hiter, and also have the second-best odds to sign the No. 3 running back, Derreck Cooper. Georgia’s legacy as “RBU” appears to be in good hands moving forward.
The tight end room is another area where Georgia is excelling. With past greats like Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington now making waves in the NFL and current stars Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie shining on Saturdays, the Bulldogs are becoming a go-to school for top tight ends. Thanks to elite recruiter and assistant coach Todd Hartley, Georgia is in a strong position to land the No. 2 and No. 3 tight ends in the class: Mark Bowman and Kaiden Prothro.
Defensively, the Bulldogs are in the top three for four-star defensive lineman James Johnson out of North Fort Myers High School in Cape Coral, Florida. Georgia is also in the hunt for two top-ten cornerbacks: Justice Fitzpatrick and Chauncey Kennon.
With Jared Curtis leading the charge, the 2026 class could be one of Georgia’s best yet. Kirby Smart and his staff are putting together another powerhouse group of recruits. Stay tuned—this class is only getting started.
