Tony Iommi Donates $100K to Birmingham Orphanage, Buys New Apartment for Children in Need
Birmingham, UK – May 19, 2025 — Legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has once again shown his generous spirit, donating $100,000 (approximately £79,000) to a Birmingham-based orphanage and purchasing a new apartment to provide safe housing for children in need.
The donation, made earlier this month, was directed to St. Michael’s Children’s Home, a long-established care facility in the heart of the city. The funds were used to secure a fully furnished three-bedroom apartment just blocks away from the main orphanage building. The apartment will serve as transitional housing for older children preparing to leave care and begin their independent lives.
In a statement, Iommi said, “Birmingham is my home, and it’s always been important to me to give back to the community that shaped me. When I learned about the work St. Michael’s is doing, I knew I wanted to help make a difference.”
Orphanage director Angela Hughes expressed her gratitude, calling the gesture “life-changing.” She added, “This apartment will provide a stable, nurturing environment for our teens who are stepping into adulthood. Tony’s generosity means the world to us.”
Iommi, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, has been involved in numerous charitable efforts over the years, particularly in his hometown. This latest act of kindness cements his legacy not only as a music icon but as a committed philanthropist.
The orphanage plans to host a small ceremony later this month to formally open the new residence, with Iommi expected to attend.
