Police Chief Chris Vallejo addressed the media during a hastily arranged 5:30 a.m. press conference near SW Washburn Avenue and Shunga Drive. His statement confirmed that officers were called to the scene around 11:54 p.m. Thursday and made contact with the suspect just an hour later.
