TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – An officer-involved shooting that occurred early Friday in the west-central part of Topeka is under investigation, officials said.
No injuries were reported in the incident, which began around 11:54 p.m. Thursday when Topeka police officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 1500 block of S.W. 24th Street.
Police responded to the area and attempted to make contact with the suspect at that address around 12:54 a.m. Friday.
The police made their presence known, and the suspect began shooting from inside the home, said Topeka Police Chief Chris Vallejo.
Officers then fired their weapons in response.
The suspect, an adult male, then surrendered to officers and was taken into custody without further incident.
Vallejo said a firearm was found at the scene.
The Topeka Police Department requested the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to investigate the incident. Per policy, the involved Topeka police officers have been placed on administrative leave. As the KBI is investigating, police officials said, any additional information will come from that agency.

According to WIBW-TV records, Thursday night’s incident was the second officer-involved shooting so far in 2025 involving the Topeka Police Department.
