BOSTON — New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye is already making waves both on and off the field. While fans eagerly await his debut under center, Maye is stepping up in a big way for a cause close to the heart of Patriots Nation — the Best Buddies Challenge.
This year, Maye is proudly serving as the Honorary Chair for the 2025 Best Buddies Challenge, a massive annual fundraiser that brings thousands together for a 100-mile bike ride from Boston to Cape Cod. The event raises money and awareness for Best Buddies International, a nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
“What a cool deal this is,” Maye said in a recent interview with 7NEWS. “To help the buddies and just find a way to put a smile on their face — really puts a smile on mine.”
It’s a role that connects Maye to a long-standing Patriots legacy. Before him, NFL legend Tom Brady served as one of the most passionate supporters of the Best Buddies organization during his time in New England. Brady didn’t just lend his name — he championed the cause with his time, energy, and leadership, helping the nonprofit raise millions over the years.
“He’s one of the best to ever do it,” Maye said of Brady. “One of the best things about Tom is his work ethic, and people in Boston cherish him for what he did on and off the field.”
Now, Maye hopes to continue that tradition, bringing new energy and excitement to the event — and Patriots fans are loving it. With the 100-mile ride scheduled for Saturday, thousands are expected to participate, including members of the 7NEWS team, who will be riding alongside Maye and other supporters.
The Best Buddies Challenge is more than a ride. It’s a celebration of inclusion, friendship, and empowerment — and it’s one of the most high-impact charity events in the region.
